Ratify C190: Time to end violence and harassment now, says ILO Director-General

Highlighting the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and the 16 Days of

Activism against Gender-Based Violence, ILO Director-General Gilbert F. Houngbo urged all countries
to ratify and implement the ILO Convention 190 to put an end to violence and harassment in the
world of work.

The African Virtual Bridging School supports Ratify C190 and participated by presenting on the
following information during the GWDN event.

While significant strides have been made in advancing women's empowerment in the workplace and
promoting their presence in leadership positions, there remains a substantial gap between the
progress achieved and the equality women rightfully deserve.

What sets women apart as exceptional leaders is their innate capacity for high emotional
intelligence, a genuine people-oriented approach, and a deep sense of empathy for others. These
qualities often translate into women leaders fostering and leading high-performing teams in the
workplace.

However, a crucial challenge that women in business continue to face is a lack of confidence in
themselves and their managerial abilities. This self-doubt can hinder their progress in leadership
roles. To bridge this gap, there is an imperative need to upskill women in leadership and soft skills.
This can empower them to step into leadership positions with greater confidence and control.

One effective approach to achieving this is by helping women understand their strengths and areas in
