Prof. Dr. Gudrun Frank, co-Director of the African Virtual Bridging School (AVBS), did a presentation
on Bridging the SME Knowledge Gap in Emerging Markets: The Role of AVBS

This presentation shed light on the crucial mission of closing the SME knowledge gap in emerging
markets. With a focus on learning and development, AVBS is pioneering innovative approaches to
ensure that no one is left behind in the pursuit of knowledge and opportunity.

AVBS was established with a noble purpose in mind: to provide education to disadvantaged children
using the power of new technologies. The school's vision extends beyond conventional education. It
aims to enlighten students about various career paths and help them discover their unique
competencies.

The first step in bridging the SME knowledge gap in African countries, as highlighted by Prof. Dr.
Gudrun Frank, is opening the minds of young individuals to the diverse career opportunities and the
untapped potential within themselves. This step involves not only imparting traditional knowledge
but also nurturing creativity and innovation.

AVBS also plays a pivotal role in equipping youth pursuing higher education with essential business
skills. This move ensures that the transition from academia to the workforce is seamless and
productive. By providing a strong foundation in business acumen, AVBS empowers these young
minds to contribute effectively to their local economies.

Furthermore, AVBS recognizes the importance of networking and building connections in the
business world. To this end, the institution facilitates linkages between its trained youth and both
existing and potential employers. This support system enables the trained youth to access wage
employment opportunities or even embark on their entrepreneurial journeys.

However, the reach of AVBS is not without its challenges. To connect with more disadvantaged
children and youth, as well as SMEs, there is a pressing need for better internet connectivity in rural
areas. The digital divide remains a significant hurdle in ensuring that education and opportunity are
accessible to all, regardless of their geographic location.

In conclusion, the African Virtual Bridging School (AVBS) is on a mission to close the SME knowledge
gap in emerging markets. Through innovative approaches to learning and development, AVBS
empowers disadvantaged children and youth to explore diverse career paths and unlock their
potential. By equipping them with essential business skills and fostering connections with
employers, AVBS is making a substantial impact in bridging the gap between education and
employment. However, addressing the digital divide in rural areas remains a critical challenge that
must be tackled to ensure equitable access to education and opportunities for all.
