AVBS & Tessa Taylor Honoured at IWDC-24 for Empowering Women

The International Women's Day Conference (IWDC-24) Round 4, themed "Save Women's Future," recently concluded with resounding success, celebrating the tireless efforts and achievements in women's economic and social development globally. Hosted by the Global Women Development Network (GWDN USA) and the Community Development Foundation (Pakistan), in collaboration with various international organizations, the event witnessed participation from over 100 countries, showcasing collaborative innovation and leadership.


Highlighting the culmination of IWDC-24 was a Digital Award Ceremony held on May 4th, recognizing vision and talent across the globe. Among the distinguished recipients were Tessa Taylor and Prof. Dr. Gudrun Frank, directors of the African Virtual Bridging School (AVBS), who were honoured for their exemplary contributions.


Taylor, also serving as the IWDC-24 Sectorial Head for Women in Education, graciously accepted the Best Sector Award on behalf of the Women in Education sector. In her acceptance speech, she emphasized the transformative power of education in empowering women, breaking stereotypes, and fostering inclusive leadership. She reiterated her sectors commitment to leveraging technology and creativity to drive positive change in education, calling for unity to overcome barriers.


Furthermore, AVBS was awarded the Best Supporting Partner accolade, recognizing its pivotal role in advancing women's empowerment and education. Taylor expressed gratitude for the recognition, underscoring AVBS's mission to cultivate individual talents, particularly among African youth and women. She emphasized AVBS's focus on STEM and ICT education, alongside self-awareness and upskilling initiatives for women in leadership, as crucial pathways to poverty eradication and sustainable development.


The IWDC-24 serves as a significant platform for global discourse on women's rights and opportunities, bringing together diverse voices and perspectives. Taylor extended her appreciation to the organizers and participants for their dedication, urging continued collaboration towards ensuring every woman and girl has equal opportunities to thrive.
